Toy Show

Last night me and a lot of my friends in our fellowship worked together to set up the toy show. We had so many people but it still took us a lot of time, and I don't know why. I think we weren't utilizing people well and we didn't have a good plan. Nevertheless, it was very nice to work with them toward the same goal and it was nice to see everyone make a big effort, give up their time, cooperate with each other and didn't mind imperfectness and little problem here and there. Everyone just wanted to do a good job. By the time I left Pacific Mall to go home, it was already 1:20am. There were still a lot of work to be done and I was worry, buuuuut, I gotta go home. I needed to work today XD.

I dropped by the toy show today right after work to see how things were going. We had pretty good progress today. We didn't have a lot of people go in to see the toy show on the first day, but it wasn't too few people either. That is a good sign. I'm sure we will have more people later on especially sunday and the last weekend. I could see nice people donated money to our donation box. I missed the cosplayer that I recruited, but I was told that they were pretty popular. A lot of people took picture with them and our staff have good feedback about our cosplayers today. That was good, at least I did a fairly decent job on my part ^^. I'll be watching the cosplayers tomorrow. I really appreciate all the volunteer cosplayers, especially ikegami, who got stuck in a very hot moogle costume.

Having too much fun, eh?

The 18000 banner ads on Diary has finished, so we are now back on our usual routine. It took about 3 weeks for the banner to run and got 177 clicks to this diary from it. Don't know what I'm talking about? It is about the "Let's Build a School Project" promotion in the previous entry.

Looks like some people (or their robot computer) is having too much fun with Rushita.com. Don't worry, I monitor my talkbox, guestbook, message board, etc, daily and I can make people's entries disappear in 3 seconds flat. So don't bother to do anything non-productive.

Just got home from work and I got like 15 e-mails about things that need to be fixed for the "Let's Build a School Project" website. It's been like that lately. Guys, Rushita has a 12-hour job, so umm....don't rush me. It'll probably be "after the fact" when I eventually get home to check my e-mails. e.e;; Gotta go fix the site.

Agenda for tomorrow:
- Go to a funeral
- Go to a doctor's appointment
- Go get the tires change (still driving on snow tire), oil change and brake check
- Go hunt for Pretear CD vol. 1 and Chobits DVD vol.3 XD

It is interesting that I miss all my friends' wedding because they are all on Saturdays, but I somehow manage to go to a lot of funerals ('cause people can't always wait till weekends XD). I go to funerals more often than weddings these days e.e;;

You don't have to visit my site or even click on any of the links on the right. Whatever you do, please click on the button below and visit that site before leaving this diary.

I'm offically announcing the project I have been working on lately. I've been helping out in various areas of the "Let's Build a School" project, mainly the website and Chinese typing and translations.

Our goal for the project is to raise $40,000 CAD by August towards the construction of a primary school in rural area of Shaanxi province in China. World Vision is the beneficiary of the donations and they will implement the construction of the school and the community.

In August 2003, Shaanxi province in China suffered a big flood and the flood destroyed a lot of schools. They badly need financial help to reconstruct the school so those poor kids can study in a safe and acceptable environment.

Please visit www.letsbuildaschool.ca to learn more about our project and support those poor children with your kind donation. Help make a difference in their lives.

Even if you don't have money to donate, you can still support our project by linking our website on your website or blog using this button:

Please tell people about "Lets Build a School" project.

Looking Back

15 years ago. Of course I remember. I was old enough 15 years ago. In fact, I was old enough to write the major public exam in Hong Kong at that time. And I have very good memory too.

Looking back, although our perception towards the world might have changed, we still have full repect to those who would give up their lives to fight for their dreams. It is truely noble. The road towards democracy is long and the price for it is big. They reminded us there is hope and there is an unselfish goal in front of us.

Honestly, what do I think about democracy and elections? I think the road to democracy is long and it needs to be long. Berlin wall collasped suddently overnight, but things surely didn't just happened over one night. It would be awfully stupid if they didn't have serious meetings and get things planned out and taken care of secretly first. In US and Canada, we would all agree that we have democracy and elections, but are our societies really any better? We've got municiple after provincal elections this year and we are going to have federal election soon. Have we been excited about voting the one we like? Has there been an exciting one to vote on in the first place? Are we getting new things and getting revolutionized with all the elections? Are there any politician that will actually do a good job and not overturn all the pre-election promises? Well, we've got the freedom to vote and the democracy, but unfortunately there is nobody good enough to vote on. It is like you have a choice to get a house with either no electricity or no water. Does it even matter whether you get to choose or not? e.e;;

I know nothing about politics, but if you look at things differently.... if you think democracy is a noble idea, socialism is even a more noble one. Democracy is a bunch of selfish people caring about themselves working together to make sure everyone's need is taken care of in a relatively fair way. Socialism is like (ideally) trying to take care of everyone and thinking about everyone instead of themselves. Of course, human is sinful, none of the political ideas will work any better anyway. Democracy is not neccessarily a better thing with sinful human. Bible never says democracy is the best. In fact, when the first human rulership started, God wasn't very fond of it. In God's Kingdom, God rules, not human, because God is the best ruler you can ever get, and under God's rulership, the world will be the best you can possibily get.

While we pay our respects to the noble ones who had fought for their dreams and better of humanity, turn your eyes upon God who can give you real security.

Feeling mushy

Never under-estimate the power of an anime. I'm still feeling mushy after watching Pretear. Right now I'm searching for all that is available about Pretear. Unfortunately there isn't much. Apparently they didn't make an artbook either, which is very disappointing because I'd very much like to have some pretty artwork from either the anime or the manga. I think I'm going to rewatch the series later. That's an advantage for a short series, because I never thought of rewatching BSSM, SKU or FY. It's too time consuming to rewatch the whole thing for them. Actually, one time exposure of Pretear didn't seem to be enough XD. I just bought the soundtrack CD vol 2 for the Leafe Knight. They didn't have the first CD, which means I'll have to go for a hunt for the first one to satisfy my mushy heart <3

These walnut cakes (size of timbits) are good. Check out Chinese bakery stores ^^ for them. I saw this on Ocha's blog:
clickie
I have been waiting to see something like this. It's about time somebody gives the Atkin's diet a lawsuit. Regardless what background the person trying to sue and his supporters have, and it doesn't matter the medical professional groups refused to comment on it, it is very clear that it is a known fact that high fat diet is bad for health. I was actually waiting to see somebody who developed kidney problem sue the Atkin's diet people. XD

I don't understand why people would try to reach me at my cellphone. I should probably change my cellphone voice message, because I don't normally turn my cellphone on e.e;; I don't a reason to do so when I'm at home, at work or in church, which is about all the places I would be. They should really try my home first...... actually, they should really e-mail me. XD E-mail is the fastest way to contact me. It can be 3 weeks before I turn on my cellphone and check for messages. X.x I'm working on the con photo or that's what I'm supposed to do if I'm not feeling too mushy and all I want to do is to curl up in my bed. XD Btw, I've gotten a bed net from Ikea. Now my bed looks like fairy tale princess bed and even more romantic and mushy. And I've got my "fan" too. The little girl of my cousin loved my grow-in-the-dark constellation on the celling but I'm too lazy to stick them back on the celling after room renovation. How she likes my bed with a net!

BTW, it is funny to go back and see your old blog. I read a few that I wrote 2 years ago and they made me smile the way I wrote ^____^.

Anime North 2004 Report

I'm back from the annual Anime North. Anime North is when and where I can totally be crazy to be a Otaku fangirl and do things that I enjoy to do. It is the only time of the year that I can forget a lot of restrictions and things and do things that I normally won't dare to do. It is great to let your inner self comes out once in a while.

The drive to the convention was pretty good and it was supposed to take only 20 minutes on the toll route. However, I arrived 40 mintues later than I should have due to missing an highway exit. I knew that place very well but I still manage to miss the exit. On the way to turn back, I miss a few more exits on different highway in the area because I couldn't get to the exit lane due to the trucks. So I wandered around Mississauga and Etobicoke area a bit and finally decided to use local streets to put myself back to the right track. What I found out was, drivers in Etobicoke like to slam on the breaks and stop all of a sudden for whatever reason e.e;; Anway, I got to the con still fairly early before the crowd and I went to registration to pick up my name tag and the con program package....and also drop off flyers of the toy show (The Toy Museum). Then I drove to the hotel to check in. The hotel was really nice. It was much better than Regal Constellation (which I never found it decent enough anyway). All the amendities I need. I forgot to bring my swimsuit but not a big deal since I didn't think I would have much time to swim anyway. Then I went to check out the model room to set up the toy show flyers and the displays for the "Let's Build a School" project. As usual, the model room wasn't open. Every year I had to wait for somebody to get there to set up my model. So I went back to the hotel lobby and played by GBA to kill time. And then Shalimar and Channy arrived to the hotel. They had some volunteer duties to do during the con. I wandered some more, set up my stuff in the model room and caught some Angelic Layer. It was still the first 2 episodes that I saw last year. Although it was raw last year, I didn't miss much. Yup, Angelic layer is one anime that I need to see someday. Then I met up with Channy and Shalimar and caught some show that they were babysitting and I couldn't remember what it was. Then we went for supper. Harvey's definitely needed to schedule more staff for the weekend. The line up by our dear con goers is very long. Then we went back to the hotel and while Shalimar was trying to figure out the volunteer schedule, I peeked in a video room as saw something interesting. Me and Channy went in to see and I remembered that was the anime that Ocha showed me the AMV for. Just from the AMV, I liked the anime enough and it looked too much like Card Captor Sakura mixed with a bit of Magic Knight Rayearth, such both anime are from CLAMP, so I believed it gotta be from CLAMP. Well, the anime was Pretear and I got addicted to it after watching half of episode 1, episode 2 and half of episode 3. Yes, Hayate looks exactly like Tooya and Sasame looks like Yukito from CCS. Himeno's battle suits looks like Sakura's battle suits. Although it said no where it is from CLAMP, I still believe it is.... I'll just have to do some investigations on the authors names.

Then we watched some Infinite Virus (or Infinite Ryrus??), which was strange. Next was the ending of Noir, which was Channy's babysitting job, which was even stranger. well, they showed the ending, so I had completely no clue of what was going on except it was very violent and people killing each other for some odd reasons or no reason at all @_@;; Then we saw some Jing King the Bandits. I've always wondered what it was about, and it turned out to be a "younger audience" anime than I though. Not a bad anime, but not my kind of anime. I seem to like "young girl" anime a lot more than "young boy" anime. Pretear isn't a mature anime either, but a little more mature than CCS. After that, there seem to be a bit of problem with the programming that there were a full room of people waiting for the Yaoi boy panel but nobody was there to start..... So while Shalimar and Channy were doing what they were doing with the staff, I went back to the hotel to hunt for water and sleep. The venting machine will not take looney or toonie, so I couldn't buy water e.e. The ice machine wouldn't work either. Actually a lot of people complained the ice machine didn't work, or not making ice fast enough for all the otaku. So I just went back to the room and use the coffee machine to boil some water to drink. The only problem was, the water tasted a bit coffee e.e;; Then I discovered there was internet! Well, the TV can do internet! It cost money of course. It took me a while to figure out now to navigate the website because things showed up differently on the TV. I forgot to rotate my SM animated gif download page before going to the con, so I tried to do that on the TV..... which I screwed up and deleted a page.....because the "1" and "enter" key on the keyboard seemed to have a problem e.e;; Well, no big deal, the site would still work right without that page. I tried to reply to a post on MW but the long reply disappeared when I pressed on something. It was very hard to navigate without the mouse I tell you XD. When I went to bed, it was already 3am.

Saturday, I woke up by the maid knocking on the door. AGAIN! I swear there is a person in Anime North who steals the "Do not disturb" sign every single year. I put the sign on the door before going to bed and it always disappear in the middle of the first night. It happens every single year. I'd like to find out that guy and beat him up. So I woke up earlier than I had to and I went on the TV internet again after getting smart on how to navigate that thing. I checked my e-mails and I think I found out why that webmail was screwy. Remember when I was in Seattle, that webmail put my good mails in trash and when deleting trash they went back to the inbox and I kept run in circles? For whatever reason, the setting for the folders was wrong and I managed to fixed it.

I went to the dealers room (note: do not go to the dealers room on the first day because there is always a long line up) and found the 2 manga I need to send to Himezaki-chan. I also found Pretear which I didn't even check out more dealers for prices and I bought all 4 DVD's expensively. Well, I didn't care much, I just have to have it ^^;;;; Turned out Shal and Channy bought Pretear the Hong Kong version 1/3 the price I did with my official NA version when they went over to Pacific Mall the same day for another reason. Actually, I spent about the same amount of money on my offical Utena VHS tapes before. Official NA versions are too expensive >.> Need to go to Pacific Mall more often. I went to the artist alley and art room as well. My favourite artist wasn't there this year and I didn't find any artist that was good enough and would take commission work. Then I had lunch. I need vegetable and my soup. I made sure I bought bottled water from the convenience store XD. After lunch, I watched Aishiteruze Baby, recommended by Channy. It was cute and interesting. Someday I'd like to see that too. Then I sat for 2 hours of Fruits Basket and 2 hours of Descendants of Darkness. They were both good. More anime on my "to-buy" and "to-watch" list. After that, I met up with Channy and we went to line up for the masquarade. I was at the front of the line this year because I was around when they were trying to set up the lines and they just happen to start the line entrace at where I was standing. The lines are in those metal railing thingy this year so we couldn't get out of the line and well, we hardly had any space. They wouldn't allow us to sit down either. I was supposed to distribute my flyers for the masquarade lineup by I couldn't move from where I was standing e.e The masquarade was again over-time and way way too long, dispite the fact that they already put cosplay skits in a different event. There were 113 entries or something and I was actually running out of space on my camera memory cards @_@;; I might consider skipping masquarade next year. When the masquarade is that long, it is not fun anymore. It was already mid-night when it finished. I attempted to go hunt for food but wouldn't compromise on donut or submarine. So I just ate the left over of my salad from lunch and my water. Btw, the elavator broke, so I had to climb the stairs and got everything to make sure I didn't have to go back up to the room for a while. I was glad that my room was only on the 5th floor. It was interesting and kinda surprising that I could climb up to the 5th floor in one shot. I could always do 3 floor in a row before running out of breath and I had to stop and catch my breath before going for another 3 floor. I guess my respiratory condition got better....probably have something to do with swimming I did a year or 2 ago. I should get back to swim regularly. I did find I can now sing a longer phase before getting out of breath. Practise probably helped too. Then, I went for the karaoke and it was almost the end. But I managed to do my Kimi o nosete. I was quite nervous and I had to keep myself slow down. I found my voice shaky a bit too. There weren't that many people left in the room, however, I apparently have some fans ^_____^. Well, one guy (should be the AN official photographer) took my picture while I was singing, and another guy taped me singing. When I was done, another guy asked me for a hug. First time hugging a completely stranger (and he needs a shower XD), but I couldn't refuse a fan ^_^. From everyone's reaction, I seemed to have done a pretty good job. Could have done better if I wasn't so nervous. Channy sang a song too, which was her first ^^. After that I went to check out the dance room. I didn't actually want to dance but I was just curious. Some day I might try.....especially if I didn't have to spend so much time on the masquarade. After that I went to bed. That, again was 3am.

This time I made sure I taped a "do not distube" note on the door before going to sleep. Sunday I watched an episode of Sugar Summar Special. Sugar is another one I need to see, it is uber cute. Then I went to Swiss Chalet for real meal. Gotta eat early to make up for missing super the night before. Apparent Swiss Chalet got busy with the bunch of Otaku too. Then I went to the dealers room again to see if I can find any Angelic Layer of Kare Kano pencil board for autograph. Nope, didn't find any....I could have sworn that I saw some the day before. So I went to Atsuko Enomoto Q&A session. Atsuko Enomoto was the Japanese voice actress for Yukino in Kare Kano and Mizako in Angelic Layer. When I walked in, she was already singing. I didn't know she was going to sing! Actually I should have known. I heard music in dealers room, but I didn't expect it was her live performance. I caught her last few song and OMG, she could speak pretty good English. She wrote up her lines what she needed to say and did them in English. She did the theme of Angelic Layer and Kare Kano and she sang really really well. Her talking voice was very cute too. She was very nice and friendly. The best part was still that she understand questions asked in English pretty well. I think she got most questions right and she mostly replied in Japanese (interpreter was there to translate). She was really cool.

I popped in the karaoke room for a bit but there were too many people. I couldn't line up to sing because I had to go back to line up for the Atsuko Enomoto's autograph. I was at the end of the line and barely made it. I took a photo with her too ^_______^. After that I went back to the karaoke room and sign up for singing. Unfortunately, I was the last one and everybody left after singing, so I didn't bother to sing. Kinda pointless to do karaoke when you have no audience. I could always do it at home...especially when I use my own CD anyway. They apparently don't have the song I wanted to sing, especially in karaoke version. It took me a long time to find the karaoke versions too. I refuse to sing to the regular version, because that is not karaoke. That is only sing-along. Karoke requires different skills and a good knowledge of the background music of the song. After that, I met up with Shal and Channy and caught the mBrosia Concert. It was a group of cosplayers in Sailor Animate and Witches 5 costumes doing a singing and dancing show. Sailor Iron Mouse was there, but I like the Lipton sidekick the best ^^. The show wasn't really my cup of tea. After that it was the closing ceremonies. We had over 8000 people attending the con this year.

What do I think of the con? Atsuko Enomoto was very cool ^^. Pretear is so ooooooooo good. I've already finished my DVD's and I'm now in a warm and mushy feeling. I want more about Pretear XD. 13 episodes was too short, but I think Ocha is right, that's what make it so good. Hayate and Sasame are my new favourite bishounen <3. I gotta find some Pretear images to make some webgraphics.

Lesson learn from the con: Yes, I do have photographic memories and it is getting better and better. On several occasions during the con (can't actually remember the occasions.....should be people or things that I saw) I got myself reminded that I have very good memory on things that I see because I have photographic memories. Well, at least I just happened to see a screen of Pretear and remembered the AMV I saw before. Also, I have uber good memory in music too. Channy did a Record of Lodoss War which I've never heard of before on the first day of karaoke. On the 2nd day, I watched a girl did a song that I didn't know which anime it was from but somehow I knew the song and was actually humming or singing along the melody in my mind when I listen to her. When she finished, I asked her which anime it was from, it turned out to be the same song Channy did the night before. I only have to listen to any song once to remember the song enough that I know I have learn of it and can sing along it. Actually, I don't even have to listen to the song before in order to sing along it. As long as I have the lyrics, I can somewhat sing along it on the first run. I knew I was good at it when I was small. I realized after a 40 minutes music class, I could remember the whole song (including lyrics) that I just newly learned in class.
